Workshop Philosophy

Goals for such a workshop as being the following:

0. Aid in identifying interesting, important and timely research topics

1. Raise awareness of, and interest and participation in, ames' work with virtual worlds

2. Push the boundaries of our thinking on transformative technologies

Planning to have 3 "visionary talks" in the schedule, each one covering one of the following long term envisioned applications of virtual environments, which Pete Worden has discussed frequently:

  • 1. "We All Get to Go"
  • 2. Remote Exploration
  • 3. Becoming the Virtual World

Host: Pete Worden, Director, NASA Ames Research Center

In between these visionary talks, we would have 2 short 20 minute talks on each of the following topics:

  • features
  • toolsets
  • applications (science/nasa etc.)
  • hardware
  • architecture
